A wrong first name in German has often led to one or the other researcher adding a wrong person to his family tree. This has the consequence that suddenly a whole part of the family in reality does not belong to the family at all. Always pay attention whether the first name stands in the first or second or third place. Just in former times one has fallen back on fewer first names and thus many people are called similarly or the same! In addition it is a difference whether at the end of a name an “e” or “a” stands. It is best to rely on official documents, but be careful: even here an official may have made a mistake.
